Admission in Healthcare Program from Information Technology

by arunkchaubey Fri Aug 05, 2011 3:17 pm

Dear All,

My name is Arun. I am from India. I have more than 6 years of work experience in Information Technology. I have worked with IBM, Accenture and Teradata and currently working with a Reinsurance organization in India.

Due to lack of proper medical facilities and care, I lost someone who meant everything for me. Now I want to join the Healthcare industry and start a hospital. So that what happened to me does not happen to someone else.

I am preparing for GMAT and my exam is in second week of September. I have written three Manhattan GMAT CAT exams, four Princeton exams, two Kaplan old exams, and 4 OG old papers. My average score so far is 640.

I have some questions and seek your opinion on this -
1. From being the IT background, what is the chance of getting into one of the best universities that offer healthcare program? Will I get any advantage for creating a diversity in the heatthcare group from an IT background?
2. What should be the GMAT score to join such program in below universities -
*University of Michigan--Ann Arbor
*University of Minnesota--Twin Cities
*University of North Carolina--Chapel Hill
*University of Pennsylvania (Wharton)
*University of Alabama--Birmingham

Thanks in advance for your time and help.

Regards
Arun S.

Hi Arun,

Thanks for writing in. As you may know, Indian males with IT backgrounds are very heavily represented in the application pool so it will take a very unique story to break out from your peers. You will need to explain very clearly why you want to move from IT to healthcare and why it's a logical fit for your skills. I wouldn't rely on your IT background bringing much of an advantage in terms of diversity, unfortunately.

Every school will publish their average GMAT score on their web site, so it's easy to find. At a cursory glance your GMAT will likely be more competitive at Minnesota and Alabama, compared to the other schools.

Good luck!

Dear Daniel,

Thanks a lot for the reply. I will try and see how can I make my story better than others. Thanks again, my friend.
