Admission Chances?

by MGMAT Member Mon Jul 21, 2008 3:39 pm

I am seeking enrollment for fall 2009 Part time MBA program and have already gathered LOR, Transcripts, studying for GMAT etc.
My question is I have a low undergraduate GPA (2.2), with an up trend & recent non-degree course work in stats, econ, corpfin, accounting (3.8 GPA),
3 letters of recommendations, 5 years experience in finance---given my extremely low undergrad GPA, is there an approximate hurdle above the median GMAT that I need to consider ie. Programs Median GMAT is 630. What approximate GMAT score would I need to validate admissions 640? 650? 660?.

I my target schools are: Georgetown, Cornell, Boston College, Boston University, Rice University, Carnegie Mellon, Virgina Tech

What are my chances of getting dinged?

For those part-time programs you mentioned, mid- to high 600s may be sufficient given your GPA, although a 700+ will be safer.

Sufficent in terms of putting the schools on a "safe" list or a "reach" list if I would get a 650 on the GMAT?

Sufficient meaning that your numbers (GMAT/GPA) alone won't be a driving factor in the admissions decision -- i.e. it will come down to everything else.
