Additional Course to Strengthen Quant

by jln5u Wed Jul 23, 2008 11:52 pm

First of all, thank you for putting in so much time to help all of us out!

Profile:
Age: 25 (Probably applying in Fall 09 for Fall 10 entrance)

Undergrad: 3.5/4.0 - Media Studies & American Studies double major - UVA - my only quant classes were Physics and Calculus - both of which I got A's in

Extracurriculars: Multiple leadership positions in NYC organizations

Current Position: Marketing/Event Manager & Sales Rep for niche sports magazine and online website, international study and work experience in London

Target schools: Anderson, Fuqua, LBS, UNC, Wharton?

GMAT: Realistically it looks like I'll be in the 650-680 range

I'm thinking of taking a few additional classes to prove to adcom's that I can handle the quant work with a low quant GMAT score (my verbal 80%+). I'm located in NYC but Stern and Columbia are cost-prohibitive to take additional classes there.

Does it really matter where you take these additional classes as long as the college/community college is accredited?

With Calculus and Physics under my belt, what else should I consider taking?

Can you recommend any other schools in the NYC area that would be "okay" to have additional classes from for B-school applications?

Thanks!

Your hunch is right, it doesn't matter where you enroll as long as the school's accredited (i.e. you can always take online extension classes offered by other universities). The "prestige" of the school where you take these classes does not matter at all.

As for classes, you can always take stats, accounting, finance, linear algebra, etc.
