Actual GMAT scoring error?

by Guest Sat Aug 09, 2008 4:11 pm

How often or rare is it for the actual GMAT to give you an incorrect overall score?

I am convinced that my score is inaccurate. I've asked to challenge the score, but the GMAC customer service rep said that you can only challenge a certain question, not the entire exam -- that seems absurd. What if they are real, significant errors with the scoring algorithm, and there is a need to check my test session over?

Thanks

Hi Tim,

It is extremely unlikely that the GMAT provided you with an incorrect overall score due to the simple fact that the entire test is conducted on a computerized system, used by all students taking the GMAT, that is continually vetted for accuracy. Hence, if your overall score was incorrect, it would be most likely incorrect for all other test-takers out there. However, the GMAC does make mistakes sometimes. What were your score breakdowns and your overall score? That could shed some light on the issue.

Yes, some additional information would be good. The software is the same for every person taking the test, so it's unlikely for there to be a systemic problem - as Mike said, a fundamental software problem would affect every test taker.
