Active and Passive Voice

by mike.s.mccann10 Wed Sep 11, 2013 1:48 pm

Hi,

A quick question regarding the definition of "Voice" in the SC Guide.

The examples are provided:

Active Voice: She threw the ball.
Passive Voice: The ball was thrown by her.
(highlights are included because its presented this way in the glossary)

So, in "Active Voice:"
She: subject
Threw: verb
the ball: object

In "Passive Voice:"
The ball: subject
was thrown: verb
by her: object

My interpretation is based on the predicate that the subject of the sentence is the noun performing the action. So if "She" or "the ball" is preforming the action that that is the subject.

Thanks,

Mike
