A hand-made question for Ron

by Linh Sun Jan 24, 2016 12:14 am

DS: Ron was driving at a constant speed of 50 mph to a party while seeing Rock’s car, which has the same size as his, passing Ron’s car also at a constant speed. They both were going to the same party. What was the speed of Rock’s car?

(1) The time Rock’s car passed Ron’s car was 10 seconds.
(the interval time when the first point of Rock’s car was equally parallel to the first point of Ron’s car until the last point of Rock’s car passed the first point of Ron’s car).

(2) The length of Rock’s car is 4299 mm.

Do you see any thing wrong there? (except poor language--- I know)

do you see anything wrong

nothing is really either right or wrong, here, since you haven't solved the problem!

Haha…
What did you mean “you haven't solved the problem”? I didn’t provide the answer?
If that’s true, then… you go first! What is your answer?

What I meant “anything wrong” was: anything that violates “DS principles”, such as two statements contradict to each other,
or something ridiculous like this:

Dogs often have 4 legs. Is this animal a dog?
(1) The animal can lay eggs
(2) The animal snores like a pig

i mean... i'm not sure what value could really be derived from thinking about that sort of thing.

yes, it's true that the official problems will all follow a certain format. e.g., the two statements won't contradict each other.
...but,
/1/ ALL of the official problems will follow that format,
/2/ that's not of much strategic importance anyway.

i guess i just don't see the relevance. you won't be tested on your ability to create test items, so, why spend the time studying something like that?

--

...but, no, there's nothing wrong with this item in terms of structure/format.

I was inspired by your ability to create super “curved” problems. So when I saw a situation on a road, this inspiration lit up. Wrong impression?
The truth is… I’m not sure about my answer (kakaka!). Is this C? Any conditions that are not necessary?

That’s very true. But I have to use something fun to get the mind interested in studies. I promise I'll be more serious!

the way you've written the problem, yes, it would be (c).

again... you won't be tested on your ability to create test items, so, that's not a productive use of your time.
