760 GMAT, 99th percentile Verbal - 4.0 AWA?

by CTSA Tue Aug 12, 2008 10:13 am

Hello everyone,

I've just received my official GMAT score report.
Despite considering myself a fluent english speaker, and receiving 47 in the verbal section (99th percentile) I've got a very low AWA score: 4.0.
Can this be offset by TOEFL grades and adequate essays? Or will the AWA score hurt my chances??

Thank you

Thank you for your inquiry. The AWA is not an important metric in the process of assessing candidates. Generally, when a candidate’s AWA scores are unusually low, schools will compare the AWA essays with the application essays to ensure that they are consistent in style. I don’t think that your 4.0 is going to set-off any alarms - be sure that your essays reflect your style and you should be fine.
