So, finally took my GMAT test today and got a 740 (thanks MGMAT!) The breakdown was as follows:
Quantitative: 46 (Scaled Score), 71 (Percentile)
Verbal: 47 (Scaled Score), 99 (Percentile)
Total: 740 (Scaled Score), 97 (Percentile)
It goes without saying that I am extremely happy with my score - months and months of studying for the quantitative section left me feeling less than confident, and in practice tests I had regularly scored around the 50th percentile in quant.
My question is... does this breakdown make sense to anyone? My final quant score does not seem to be particularly outstanding and yet my total score puts me in the 97th percentile overall. Does this mean that the verbal section is weighted more than quant? Googling "gmat 740" turned up posts from discussion forums where test takers had gotten a higher quant score than verbal, and were in similar percentiles for both sections.
I'm a little concerned at how b-schools will look at the quant percentile relative to the verbal, but - in no uncertain terms - I will not look a gift horse in a mouth. A 740 is a blessing. If anyone could shed some light on the odd breakdown for my intellectual curiosity, it would be greatly appreciated.
