710 GMAT first attempt, profile evaluation.

by VenkataramanP763 Thu Jul 31, 2014 10:45 pm

I took the GMAT two days ago and scored a 710. (IR 7, Quant 49 : 75 percentile, Verbal 39: 82 percentile, total 92 percentile).

I'm planning to apply in September 2015, by July 2015 I'd be gaining two years of work ex ( technical operations, PepsiCo).

Have an undergraduate degree in Engineering with a GPA of 3.3,

Would like to know if 710 is good enough? Also, would it be wise to apply before September 2015?

TIA!

Hi there,

Thanks for posting. Given where you are at, I think it does make sense to get another year of experience before applying, most likely. As for the 710-- it's pretty strong; one of those scores that could go either way as you are close to the average of top programs. It's unlikely that the 710 would be THE reason to keep you out (i.e. if you had an amazing profile/application and they loved you, a 710 is likely fine), but that said it's likely a bit lower than many of those with technical/engineering experience.

No matter what, do focus on any way you can pick up some leadership experience, either within or outside of the workplace, in the coming year, and potentially some community involvement, and spend time researching your career options as well as schools. Good luck!
