610, profile evaluation

by beller.chris Wed Nov 06, 2013 3:50 pm

Hi, I am a white male focused in finance. 5 years experience and am a Charter Financial Analyst. 3.1 GPA undergrad, graduated 1 semester early. Took the GMAT once and got a 610 with a verbal skew. Planning on taking it again next month. Hoping you could shed some light on if admin. consultants place weight on finance industry certification to perhaps supplement a lower quant GMAT score? Thanks!
Applying to Cornell and Tepper, trying to consider a third.

Hi there,

Thanks for posting. I think it's a good idea to re-take, yes; be sure you do some thorough preparation before hand, including several full-length timed adaptive practice exams, and then study from the exams you take the next day, with the aim to learn from your mistakes.

Yes some weight is given to CFA certification; but on the flip side a 3.1 is lower than is ideal, and the GMAT is given a fair amount of consideration because it's a recent indicator/predictor of academic success.... so overall I'd say focus on this upcoming exam with the aim to do as well as you can ;), and go from there. Good luck and keep us posted!
