2nd edition vs. 4th edition options

by james_cabral Thu Jul 09, 2009 11:38 pm

Hello -

I purchased a complete set of your 2nd edition study guides and the 11th ed OG last summer. I was in the middle of my review but got sidetracked with a busier than expected work schedule. I just learned that you have since released 3rd and 4th editions. I plan to take the self-guided package and was wondering if I can swap out my "old" books for the newer set.

Alternatively, what are your thoughts with me just using my old books and just listen to the recorded online sessions? Will you be willing to just give me a credit for my old books? Also, with me using the older books will I not be able to follow the recorded classes? Will I miss out on substantial material by using the 2nd ed?

I hope you guys can help out. THANKS!

There was a decent amount of updating between the 2nd and 3rd editions, although the test itself didn't change in any big way, so the 2nd edition stuff isn't obsolete. The difference between 3rd and 4th is simply that the 3rd uses OG11 and the 4th uses OG12.

Re: your questions about swapping out or getting new books for the self-guided package, contact the office (800.576.GMAT or studentservices@manhattangmat.com); I'm not sure how they would handle this situation. We did have a book swap going on last fall, when the 3rd edition books came out, but that swap has ended because we don't have any more 3rd edition books left.
