20th century paper tests - year 1996 & 97

by vinversa Thu Jul 22, 2010 5:08 am

I found this post from pmal04

Hi Stacy,
You said in one post," I don't recommend studying from the old paper tests. It's a totally different era and that company no longer even writes the test."
In the light of that could you please delete this post?
Thanks,

I was worried, because I too spent time on old paper tests. Then, I visited the GMAC website and researched the products they had on sale for us to prepare for the GMAT. When I found this (below), my worries were gone...

GMAC sells retired paper tests from 1996-97 etc... So if you have old papers tests 96/97 and further into the present, then I guess you should be fine.... But, we will have to wait for posts from MGMAT instructors to be 100% sure. In 2003, GMAC didnot renew its contract with ETS, but instead chose Pearson VUE. VUE has a large network of test centers, cheaper...bla bla... Pearson also helps build new test questions... (this may be why we should focus a lot on the GMAT prep questions. We should thank Ron, Stacey and entire MGMAT team for all their posts here...)

But, here are the paper tests that GMAC sells
Format: PDF File

US$25.00

Here's another way GMAC® helps you prepare for the GMAT® exam"”GMAT Paper Tests. Each set of three easy-to-download paper tests is available for US$25.00. These are tests that are "retired" and out of circulation. Each set of paper tests includes timed sections, an answer sheet, and a way to convert your raw score to the equivalent GMAT score!

GMAT Paper Tests I"”Includes "retired" tests 14, 31, and 55

GMAT Paper Tests II"”Includes "retired" tests 25, 37, and 48

GMAT Paper Tests III"”Includes "retired" tests 28, 42, and 52

i don't notice any wording here indicating that even the GMAT claims these tests are still relevant. :) Look, i don't even recommend that my students use the 10th edition OG, as the problems there (at least the non-persistent ones) are so out of date that they are no longer relevant for the most part. Use older materials at your own risk, but remember they are going to be more of a waste of time than they will be beneficial..
