Re: Q24 - Human tears and emotional stress

Let's apply the same analysis to (E) : "takes for granted that because [blahblahblah], it's true that [blehblehbleh]". Okay, this is classic assumption language. Arguments are flawed because they 'take for granted' that because a premise is true, it must be that the conclusion is true! Ok...

Re: Q22 - Merle: Usually when I insert a dollar bill

Hi Manhatten Prep,
I picked the correct answer but was being troubled diagramming (A). Could you show the diagram of its conditional logic? Thanks!

Re: Q8

I would like to share my two cents for those suffering about why the latter part of A being supported. I eventually came to accept it after reviewing Line 38-43. It's a short argument: some overlap of lawyers with civil bar and those with church bar. ----- Thus, church law lawyers do not more likely...

Re: Passage Discussion

Hi Manhatten Prep, I have a problem with understanding a clause in Line 30 -32, quoted "...,whereas runs aways from it are shortened by an increased tendency of the bacteria to tumble and change direction." My understanding regarding the entire second paragraph is the same as the above pos...

Re: Q19 - Dr. Schilling: Those who advocate

Hi Manhatten Prep, Even though I eventually got it correct, but I had a very hard time understanding how (E) could be the argumentative method that Laforte factually, literally employs. My understanding of this question type is that the credited choice must reflect the actual method used. I understo...

Q13

Hi Manhattan Prep, I am troubled by the language "moral injustice" on (E); for me, this phrase seems stretched far from the passage in which the author uses words such as "intuitively" and "inherently" wrong and unjust. I was shocked by (E) especially because the questi...

Re: Q4 - The top 50 centimeters of soil

(D) is wrong because it only pointed out the bones appeared earlier than the human arrival. The trap is how (D) frames the sentence "bone from birds known to be eaten by the islander". This is not the same as "bone from birds eaten by the islander".

Q13

Hi all, how are you? I struggled between (C) and (E). Reading the second paragraph of Passage B, I understood that the two points of the Author of the passage are: (i) an autobiographical author has to choose between two types of memory--the false one and the true one, and (ii) the false memory is v...

Q23

Hi Manhattan Prep, In (E) "...that is typically drawn from....", I have trouble to find the supporting text for "typically" in Passage B. I thought it generally means "most" in LSAT. In Passage B, the last paragraph mentions certain topics of griots' music, but there wa...

Re: Q2

Hi Manhattan Prep, I need advice in terms of execution, i.e., attacking the question in a real test. Since the "narrative structure" can merely be supported by Line 17 "simple in structure", either someone has a strong short-term memo or happens to catch the line, otherwise, this...

Q18

Hi. When I took the test, I struggled between (C) and (E). I could see why (E) is correct but I found (C) very attractive. Passage B is basically saying that people will still make moral judgments even when they have no free will. (C) could undermine this idea because experiment subjects, which we c...

Re: Q26

Try not to build too much off the portion of the passage that the answer choice is supposed to conclude or continue. It should essentially restate the information in a slightly different way. Answer choice (C) does this. The last sentence says that building a reputation can be beneficial - explaini...

Re: Q17 - Climatologists believe they know why

I'm down to C versus D on this one, and still getting fooled. I understand why D is right - the argument essentially is talking only about cosmic dust muting the sun, and says nothing about dust from the Earth's surface having temperature-muting powers. D specifically says that the dust it is talki...

Re: Q15 - According to current geological theory

I see that, because the cracks could have happened at any time since the Ice Age, D is a better choice B. However, it doesn't seem SO obvious to me that that rules B out. Here is how I understand the argument: 1. Melting ice at end of IA caused cracks in some parts of the earth's crust 2. Sweden ex...

Re: Q15 - In a study, parents were asked

Hi, This very pattern of Explain Question is so odd for me. When approaching the stimuli, I tried to look for an unexpected-moment but then was completely thrown-off. It seemed very reasonable to say when a kid watched more violence then that kid will be disciplined more. My lesson was that, in Expl...

Re: Anyone Recommend Some Books Explaining Argument Types?

Thanks, Patrick! I sent you an email. This way of learning LR has helped me incredibly. I believe each inductive argument has a set of evaluation standards. So, a more specific guideline of thinking in relation to the different types of argumentation help me to dissect LR more efficiently. I found s...

Re: Q25 - Sociologist: Widespread acceptance of

I would like to chime in with my thoughts about why (C) is wrong. 1. I believe C is only repeating the premise of the stimulus. Stimulus: "After all, the assumptions that appear to guide legislators will often become widely accepted." The assumption here refers to "the idea that indiv...

Anyone Recommend Some Books Explaining Argument Types?

Hi All, How are you all? I am Leon. When I read Manhattan LR book 5th ed these days, in the Ch 2 there is an added content, compared with 4th ed., where different argument types were introduced (conclusion types like predictive, mandate, conditional, facutal, causation...etc). The new Manhattan 5lb ...
