Are "excerpts" ever going to lead to tricks? (MSR QB)

On the MGMAT MSR Question Bank, Taxi Swipers- 2, I'm wondering if there is the potential for a "trick question'" for the first Yes/No. The statement is as follows: In making his or her case to subsidize installations, the city official cites none of the benefits described in the report. Th...

Dumb Question Regarding Problem Sets and GMAT Navigator

I'm doing the MGMAT Interact Course (just finished Session 6) and all the advice says to make random, timed problem sets to move away from individual questions. Since GMAT Navigator requires you to input each question individually, how do I make the set? Do I just do 10 OG questions in a row? Am I m...

Two-Part PS #9 - why do both conditions apply to part 2?

For the question from the problem set, the first part early indicates the additional constraint of "without losing business," meaning that 35% of the receivables owed from customers cannot be claimed. The second part, however, only states that we are looking for the minimum amount needed f...

Re: Negative solutions to square roots?

I understand the mathematical convention - I was always taught this in school. However, based on this question, I have a follow-up from the Algebra Strategy Guide (6th ed). For Chapter 12, question #7, the solution provides a positive and negative root. Question: If g(x)=3x+√x what is the value of g...

Re: Negative solutions to square roots?

Ron - The plugging numbers in part is fine. Understanding it theoretically, here's what I've come up with: x in the original function cannot be negative because it's under a square root, but the perfect square is never negative (because it's a perfect square), so d can be positive or negative, even ...

Need Help Creating/Refining a Game Plan for the Last 3 Weeks

Background: I'm studying for the GMAT full-time right now. I'm fairly fresh out of undergrad and start work at the end of the month and thought it would be good to get it done even though I'm not applying for 2-4 years. I made myself a 7 week plan and now have only 3 weeks until test day (well, jus...

Re: Dumb Question Regarding Problem Sets and GMAT Navigator

Thanks - I meant this more mechanically in terms of how to make a problem set that simulates the test when I'm confined to a clunky book. I guess there's just no way around it though.

Re: Two-Part PS #9 - why do both conditions apply to part 2?

You don't have to assume anything anyway. They 2 questions:
1) Find number that fulfills condition A
2) Find number that fulfills condition B

Why does condition A apply to condition B?

Re: Need Help Creating/Refining a Game Plan for the Last 3 Weeks

I took the first GMATPrep CAT and got 730 (Q47, V44, IR 7) - now I'm just under two weeks from the test, which I plan to take. The GMATPrep test felt quite easy compared to Manhattan ones, but I wasn't familiar with the questions beforehand so it's probably relatively accurate (maybe on the higher e...

Re: Are "excerpts" ever going to lead to tricks? (MSR QB)

I guess "trick" is not the right word, but what I mean is designing the question to catch people in a reading error. For example, there is a GMATPrep tables question where they ask about unadjusted change in CPI when the table only has adjusted (or maybe the opposite). This is a more obvio...

Re: Need Help Creating/Refining a Game Plan for the Last 3 Weeks

I got a 740 on the real thing. Quant and IR scores were not the best (Q47, V45, IR 5) but it went well overall.

Re: Are "excerpts" ever going to lead to tricks? (MSR QB)

Yes, I agree on accurate reading. What I'm asking is whether something as subtle as "excerpt" could be used to test a reading error in IR. No one has answered that.
