SC verb tense parallelism

I came across this sentence during a GMAT study group (got this question on a piece of paper so not sure where it's from) and want to understand (1) why the sentence is wrong due to verb tense parallelism and (2) what would be the correct parallel structure. Thanks in advance for your explanation! [...

Re: CR : wind and solar power

Hi, I'm still not sure why D is wrong ... The statement here is around "The utility companies claim that although these sources require significant initial capital investment, they will provide stable energy supplies at low cost". The assumption the conclusion / statement relies on is that...

Re: High-School Finances

Hi, I didn't think C was right because C states "The number of high school seniors with significant financial responsibilities is greater than the number of seniors who have bounced a check." whereas the statement quotes percentages. How do I know that the first study is done on the same g...

Demonstrative Pronouns

Hi - I came across the rule that Demonstrative Pronouns such as "that" is used not in conjunction with a noun, they should not refer to a noun that is located within the same clause. I didn't quite understand this rule and would appreciate your explanation / a few examples. Thank you!

Re: Demonstrative Pronouns

so, in light of that little rant above, please provide whatever example(s) may have accompanied the original claim (to which you're referring in the original post). ...and, of course, if the original source didn't contain any examples, then run away from it as fast as you can. run! run! Haha thanks...

Educator: Like many other difficult pursuits...

Hi - I see that the answer can be C but I certainly see that A is a very good answer... Would appreciate it if you can provide more information on why A is lesser of an answer than C. Thanks! Educator: Like many other difficult pursuits, music requires intense study and practice from an early age in...

Slot Method vs Combinatorics

Hello! I have always wondered why the slot method is wrong here... For example, if a committee has three spots, and there are 4 professors and 6 students being considered for the committee. How many ways can you construct the committee such that 1 professor and 2 students are on it. My method -- wro...

Re: Since 1990 the global economy has grown more than it did

"had been" is not parallel to anything in the other half of the sentence; in order to use a parallel structure that contains a form of "to be", you must have another form of "to be" in the other half of the parallel structure." Ron can you please elaborate on this ...

Why are these rules true?

Hi Experts, There are a few "rules" below that are deemed to be true, and after testing a few examples, I know they are true. However, can someone please explain / prove why they are true (other than testing a few examples - I have done this)? It's hard for me to just memorize rules withou...

Re: Why are these rules true?

if anything, trying to memorize stuff like this will probably just make you WORSE at solving the problems, because /1/ you'll have less brainpower available for actual pattern-recognition and problem-solving skills, and /2/ you might mistake other things for these, and end up getting problems wrong...

Why is F=2, Others=3 means F is 2/3 of Others?

"If F owns 2/3 of everyone else's share, how much of total share does F own?" Solution: If F = 2, everyone else = 3, then F is 2/3 of everyone else, and thus 2/(2+3) = 2/5 of all I'm confused by the concept in the solution - how do we know everyone is 3 and F is 2? Also even if F is 2 and ...

Re: Why is F=2, Others=3 means F is 2/3 of Others?

you could also use any other numbers that reduce to the fraction 2/3. e.g., F = 4, everyone else = 6 F = 6, everyone else = 9 F = 212, everyone else = 318 F = 2√2, everyone else = 3√2 F = 2π, everyone else = 3π etc. try any of these -- you'll quickly see that you get the same reduced fraction 2/5 a...
