Re: Gmat 720 after struggling with MGCat Quant

Good run down, congrats on your result. I am getting similar results on quant, latest CAT Q37,V39. Hoping to get that Q up to 47 or 48 in about 9-10 weeks. I love coffee. The only issue is that on both my cats in the last 15 minutes of both the Q and V sections I have really needed to use the bathro...

How important is it to master Quadratics?

If you are targeting 700+ (or min 80th percentile on quant), how crucial is it to master quadratics? They do seem to be rearing their head in other questions, where you break down a word problem or geometry problem, only to end up with a quadratic to solve to get the final answer. I'm struggling wit...

Re: The ratio of the amount of Alex's fuel oil bill

Just watched this problem on TWR archive. When I calculated it, I approached it in the following way; The increase in the ratio from the real to hypothetical situation, expressed as a fraction is; 5/3-3/2 = 10/6-9/6 = 1/6 Therefore the increase was in a ratio of 1 part increase : 6 parts original, s...

RC lab - Headline lists - lists very long, time consuming

I am just going back over the Lab #4 RC on creating headline lists as this is an area I feel I am weak on. In RC I have been spending too much time 3-4 minutes on Short passages and 5-6 minutes on Long passages. I am scoring 37-39 on verbal, so getting mostly difficult passages. Just going back into...

Re: the usage of "Whose"

I am having issues understanding how C is the best answer. I eliminated C on the basis that a reputation regaining a status is illogical. Is 'regain' an active verb in this sentence? Suggesting that a reputation is an object that can gain, lose and regain a status. I chose A, on the basis that the c...

Re: Picking the same value for x and y when picking numbers

Sorry, ignoring the question then and getting to the nuts and bolts of it.

With x+y=xy
also sometimes shown as x+y/xy=1

Is it possible for x and y to be anything other than 2?

Re: Picking the same value for x and y when picking numbers

Thanks Ron!

I didn't think about 0, rookie error. This has come up where the question stipulates xy>0. I think the key take away though is that x and y have to be the same value if x+y=xy.

Re: the usage of "Whose"

Thanks.

I think I have to focus on your point about not making absolute decisions. I really dug in my heels on that one and wouldn't budge for another answer.

Re: Picking the same value for x and y when picking numbers

I should have included in that stipulation 'where x and y are integers greater than zero'.

Study strategy for long gap until test day.

I was really hoping to take the text in the first week of May. However, all of the test centres in my area have booked out until mid-June. So now I have 2 months until test date. It is a bit frustrating, because I looked a month back but was not confident that I would get the score I would want as a...

I think this Q will get pulled. Not in correct section and you have to reference the source.

1 Week out, 580 on MGMAT, 710 on GMAT Prep

So I didn't touch the books for the 2 weeks I was on holidays. I had been in an interview process for a very good job, and then a call came in from within my company for a promotion and a move internationally. I had worked really hard not to let the first interview process affect my motivation for t...

Re: Countdown to Test Day, My Study Experience So Far

Your biggest gain now is going to come from getting that V36 up, as you say, so I would focus on RC and CR. However, you would need to get to V42-43 to crack the 700 with a Q45, so you are still going to have to work on improving your Quant too and get that up a couple of points. CR Questions - I fo...

Navigator - possible improvement?

Hi guys, Navigator is a great resource, but one suggestion that would make it even better. I review areas by using the graphical display and going through to the subject specific area and bringing up the display box showing the list of questions answered correct/incorrect/timing etc. I want to go ba...
