Re: Number properties questions bank problem:Dividing 11 and 19

11y=19z, this can be derived using the problem statements. For this equation to hold good, y must be a multiple of 19, as 11 is not. Otherwise the left hand side of the equation cannot be equal to right hand side, which in essence is a multiple of 19. Likewise, z has to be a multiple of 11, as 19 is...

Re: GMAT PREP QUESTION--

Question- "m" is divisible by how many Prime numbers? So for any given value of m that fits the conditions, how many prime numbers would it take to divide m. (question is not asking you to count the number of possible m's that fit the conditions) With condition (1)- m can be any one of odd...

Regarding level of difficulty, this is probably an 80th percentile question. Now i'm winging it :-)

Re: The length of minor arc AB is twice the length....

Don't think the question is wrong. Without the benefit of diagram, here is my proposed solution- Given arc lengths- AB = 2 x BC AC = 3 x AB Assuming BC = y, AB= 2y, AC = 6y. Circumference = AB+BC+AC = 9y arc y has an angle of 360/9 = 40 degrees Length of arc BCA = BC+AC = y+6y = 7y Therefore angle B...

Re: The length of minor arc AB is twice the length....

Thanks for the link to the diagram. I misunderstood the question. I was assuming angle BCA was referring to the angle subtended by the arc BCA at the center of the circle. Didn't realize the diagram was referring to a triangle. With all the calculations remaining the same as my previous post, angle ...

Re: 5^21 x 4^11 = 2 x 10^n

5^21 x 4^11 = 2 x 10^n

LHS
5^21 x (2^2)^11
5^21 x 2^22

RHS
2 x 10^n
2 x (2x5)^n
2 x (2^n) x (5^n)
2^(n+1) x (5^n)

Now given LHS=RHS
n = 21

Re: What is the ratio of y to x?

Yes, x cannot be zero as y/x=3. If x were zero, y/x would have been undefined.

Re: Is the integer x divisible by 6?

Try this: for x to be divisible by 6, it has to be divisible by factors of 6-> 3 and 2. From (1), we can conclude that x is divisible by 3 (if x+3 is divisible by 3, it means x+3 is a multiple of 3 or x is a multiple of 3) From (2), we can conclude that x is divisible by 2 (if x+3 is an odd numbe...

Re: KN/MN

(2) by itself gives the ratio of KN/MN. Not sure if C is the right answer.

Here is the sol:

Since the three rectangles have same dimensions, say width=x, length =y

KN=y=2x
MN=y+x

KN/MN = 2x/3x = 2/3

I think you meant "D" and not "E" in your comment - "I agree that B makes an assumption that many people in X buy the latest. But E too makes the assumption that all clothes and electronics available in country X are imported." The way I read the question and the answer...

Re: NP Guide (3rd Ed) - Divisibility & Primes Advanced (pg. 117

Pl read the question carefully.

(1) is referring to 50 prime numbers between 2 and x; not the number 50. So if you start writing the prime-number sequence starting 2, the value of the 50th prime number is x.

There isn't any step missing between equation 2 and 3 for the left-hand side.
