Re: Fractions, Decimals & Percents: Chapter 1

For such questions there is a generic formula also:
(Sum of n numbers)*(n-1)! * [10^n-1]/[10-1]

i applied on above question
(24)*(2)*111 = 2664

Re: If set S consists of an odd number

The set {4, 6, 10, 12, 18} does not follows normal distribution, i.e. the well known bell shaped curve. In normal distribution the bigger values lies in the centre.

Re: challenge problem

One golden rule that i always follow in inequality problem is try removing the unknown variables. In the above question II gives us the opportunity to reduce unknown K to known 3. So lets start with II first: II: y = |x-3|-|x+3| =>Three conditions arises: x>0,x=0,x<0 a)x>0 =>y=(x-3)-(...

Re: Cross multiplying and inequalities

our inequality is: (m+x)/(n+x)>m/n We only need to know m and n, sign of x is irrelevant. lets see how. Multiply both side of inequality with n. since n is positive, we do not need to change the inequality. n(m+x)/(n+x)>m similarly, multiplying both side by 1/m n(m+x)/m(n+x)>1 n(m+x)>m(n...

Re: In a 5 digit ID number probability of 3 digits + tough

How about the following solution:
Total number of ways in which exactly 3 digits have value 2: 5C3 = 10.
Total number with 5 digits = 9*10*10*10*10 = 90000
Required probability = 10/90,000 = 1/9000

Re: f(x)=f(1-x) for all x

Q I got wrong in the practice exam - can you pls explain this to me? For which of the following functions f is f(x)=f(1-x) for all x a) f(x)=1-x b) f(x)=1-x^2 c) f(x)=x^2 - (1-x)^2 d) f(x)=x^2 (1-x)^2 e) f(x)=x / (1-x) The correct ans was D, but I can't get to this... for faster calculation, take x...

Re: If a car traveled from Townsend to Smallville ...

for easy calculation lets say the distance b/w T and S is 40 miles.
So for T->S took 1 hr. That means from S->T took 40 minutes. Now we can caluclate average return speed. So if we have both forward (x) and backward(y) speed, we can easily calcualte avg. speed.(2xy/(x+y))

Re: If x and y are +ve, which must greater than 1/(x+y)^0.5?

for x=1/9 and y = 1/16:
question stem gives: Sqrt[1/(25/144)]
=sqrt[144/25]=12/5=2.40

while ii gives 3.XX for x and y.

It is simple calculation. can you please tell your excat doubt.

Re: in 1995 division a of company x had 4850 customers

I wanted to know why the following approach is wrong; it would give the answeer as A. Overall rate = rate at A + rate at B we can caluclate rate at A since we know the total number of errors as well as the total number of customers. Also, statement I gives overall rate . so , rate at B can be calucl...

Option A can be easily kicked out.
