Sorry guys, why cant we approach in the following way?
x^3+x^2=2x
=> x^2+x=2
=> x(x+1)=2
=> x is either -2 or 1.
Then using the other piece of data (x<>-2) we can draw the conclusion that x=1
Hence C is the answer.
